Charleston County Council voted to remove 86 properties from the city's accommodations overlay zone, an area on the peninsula where hotels can be built. Properties in this zone include offices, housing, churches, and other structures, and the proposal makes it difficult for them to apply for permission to be redeveloped as a hotel in the future. This is the 3rd time a measure was proposed to curb hotel growth since Mayor Tecklenburg took office. Read more about council member objections here.
